Kidney for Dana

Donation protected
Dear friends,

I am writing and reaching out with the hope that you can help me share this far and wide. My aunt, who is also a dear friend, sister, daughter, mother and very much loved individual just recently learned she is needing a kidney transplant. A living donor is the option for survival.

Dana Fabri Moser is a 39 year old wife and mother of two boys, residing in Jessup, PA. On June 11, she was scheduled for a routine outpatient procedure and had baseline lab work drawn prior to, yielding kidney function at less than 5%. She had been asymptomatic despite her GFR of 3, diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. With no indicative symptoms, doctors resorted to a kidney biopsy on June 17, concluding IgA nephropathy / Berger’s disease. Without further ado, she sought second (and third) opinions and decided to have her care followed at Geisinger of Danville. Plans were to consist of peritoneal dialysis however due to anemia (Hgb of 6), she had port placed and will begin dialysis emergently today July 9th. Despite dialysis beginning, a kidney transplant is vital. Given her numbers, the irreversible damage, and the progression of the disease, time is not a friend.

Dana is requiring donor of O+ blood type, of course of a healthy adult without underlying or chronic medical conditions. While this will be an ongoing learning process for Dana and family, we know some basic information about kidney donations:

·         Kidney is the most commonly donated organ.

·         There are approximately 100,000 people on the kidney transplant list, with average wait time of 2-5 years.

·         Most donor surgery is done laparoscopically and recuperation period is generally two weeks.

·         You only need one kidney to live a healthy life.

You can learn more about living donation on the National Kidney Foundation website (www.kidney.org/livingdonation), UNOS (transplantliving.org) or Geisinger (geisinger.org/patient-care/conditions-treatments-specialty/transplant-surgery).

Thank you for taking the time to read and if you would be willing to share with everyone you know, to help us get the word out. We would be happy to tell more about Dana’s story and explore the process of determining if someone is a match for Dana. I will be updating with more information as received but if you can please keep Dana in your thoughts and prayers. She will not put up this fight alone and she will get through this. <3
