Tom’s road to recovery

Donation protected
Dad, of all the roads you have travelled this road to recovery will be the longest, hardest and most important.

Three weeks ago on June 5th our worlds came to a stop when a vehicle failed to look and carelessly crossed the highway pulling in front of my Dad, Thomas McLeod, as he was riding his motorcycle home from the lake. He had a devastating accident as he collided with the truck at highway speed. He has suffered a tremendous amount of injuries many of which are life threatening and will have serious long term effects. He has multiple breaks and fractures to all areas of his body including face, jaw, neck, ribs, spine, arm and pelvis. He is still in intensive care and we are fortunate that he is continuing to fight each day to stay with us. He has undergone more surgeries than anyone should have to in a lifetime and has more to go to have what we can only hope and pray will be a successful recovery over the next year.

Dad spent his last weekend doing what he loved, spending time with his kids and grandkids and lending a helping hand. For those of you who know my father he is as honest and hardworking as they come. He is the first to help others and the last to ever expect or ask for anything in return. He has always put his family and others in front of himself and continued to work tirelessly at his 42 year career with the same company. He loved the outdoors and riding his motorcycle. He and Mom have travelled all over Canada, US and even New Zealand riding. This accident has changed his life, cost him his favorite past time, time away from his grandkids, caused an incredible amount of pain and has impacted the retirement with my Mom that he has worked so hard for.

My Mom, is self-employed and runs a day home, has stopped working as a result of the accident so she can be by his side. The intention of this go fund me is to help her cover the increased expenses and eventual retrofits that will be required as a result of the accident. We want to make this road to recovery as stress free as possible given the circumstances that have already ensued. Further, I hope to bring awareness to these types of accidents and urge drivers to pay extra attention and remember to watch for motorcyclists as they are deeply loved and deserve to come home to their families.
