Myoelectric Arm For 15 Year Old Congenital Amputee
Donation protected
My name is Julia Broadbent. I was born with one arm, and I’ve spent my whole life trying to prove I can do anything anyone with two arms can do. Although I’ve come a long way since I was little and unsure of how I would navigate the world, there are a lot of things I’ve had to admit I just can’t do, which is hard for me to concede.
Every time I’ve decided to try a new hobby, I’ve had to wait until I got a prosthetic arm for that hobby just to try it. Then if I didn’t like it, too bad it was a lot of money spent and there was nothing more to be done. Over the years I have picked up a couple of hobbies such as basketball, guitar, video games, and horseback riding, but I could never just grab a guitar to strum around the campfire or grab a basketball to shoot a couple of shots before dinner, because I had to get a prosthetic on, which takes a lot of time, and most of the time I lose the motivation to do the activity at that point.
My whole life I have dreamed of being able to do everything that my peers can do, but I've often been discouraged thinking that it would be impossible. Now I have this unbelievable opportunity to get a myoelectric arm to allow me to do anything and everything. This opportunity has been an option my whole life, but I wasn’t done growing so really it was never an option until now. This has literally been my dream since I was little, and I spent my whole life researching these arms and dreaming of having one. The time has come where the only thing stepping between me and my dream is, of course, money. I hate asking people for money and if you know me personally, you would know that. But this has been my dream my whole life and any amount you could share, I would be more than grateful for. I know it’s a lot of money, but doing what you all do every day, would change my life and my future. This arm would not only allow me to do everyday activities, like put up my hair or drive a car, but this would allow me to do all the things I’ve had to sit out of and watch my whole life. I ask for the little girl sitting on the sidelines while everyone jump rope, or who ran behind her friends while they all biked ahead, or to the young women who had to teach herself to type one-handed and write with her non-dominant hand and still make her school work look decent. I ask you to please donate. Any contribution makes a difference.
The Little Dolphin School(Tax ID: #34-2049664) is a non-profit and has been generous enough to sponsor my fundraising activities so that we can properly account for donations. If you are interested in making a financial donation, please, make checks payable to The Little Dolphin School Foundation and reference Julia B, Fund in the memo line.
