ABBOT...Abbot is a miniature poodle who has not had the best start in life. He is currently living in China having been rescued from the streets of Harbin, Northern China by Slaughterhouse Survivors HRB (Animal Rescue) last August 2018. When Abbot was first rescued, he was a very ill little dog. He had paralysis of his hind legs and had open, infected wounds all over his back end. The three girls who run SHS and their partnered vets have worked hard with Abbot to rehabilitate him and to ensure he is well enough to be able to leave China for a new home with a family who loves him, despite his handicap.
Abbot is unable to walk without the use of his wheelchair but can shuffle around on his bum extremely well. Initial Xrays indicate that he has prolapsed discs which have put pressure on his spinal chord causing irreparable damage leading to paralysis. His X rays are currently being reviewed by a veterinary orthopaedic surgeon which will give a clearer diagnosis and establish if anything can be done to ease Abbot’s mobility. Despite all of this, he is an extremely loving and loyal dog who craves affection - something which he has obviously not experienced prior to being rescued. His favourite thing is to trail his bed around in his mouth and place it where the sun is shining so he can bask in the heat. Abbot is wary of strangers at first which is not surprising given the fact that dogs are horrifically tortured and eaten every day in China. However, once you earn his trust, you have a devoted and loyal friend for life.
He is booked to fly out of China and come to Ireland in April 2019 which will cost between £700 and £900 depending on his weight and the crate size. He had a home offer which has sadly fallen through.
This account is to raise money to ensure Abbot does get his freedom flight out of China as originally planned so that he can begin the next chapter of his rehabilitation. This boy really deserves the chance to experience a loving home, something which he has never had before.
