A Sad Tale About Happy’s Tail

Donation protected
Many of you know Happy to be my loyal and unusual service animal. She’s always with me quietly sitting at my feet or lap. She loves everyone especially babies and cats (she doesn’t understand why cats don’t love her back). The best part of Happy is that she is a sweet and caring gal that’s always living up to her name.

This Tuesday there was an accident involving her tail. It is unclear whether her hair got caught on the spoke of the bike on a nut in the basket, what it is clear is this she suffered a very painful degloving injury. She did not cry or react in any way to make us notice something was wrong. My younger boy screamed in horror that she was bleeding.

We made a mad rush to the vet. She examined her and gave Happy the “happy” pain meds. Then sent us to the emergency hospital minutes away, it felt like a state away.

On the initial emergency room visit we were told that perhaps the tail could be saved. Unfortunately, after several visit it had become clear that part of her tail must be amputated next week. Though we have an “insurance” for her it doesn’t cover surgery or emergency room visits.

With your help Happy will be herself again- Happy trails!
