Avery Jones

On March 13, 2019, Avery was enjoying his spring break in Colorado with his mom & Dad & grandfather when he suddenly fainted. He was rushed to the ER in Trinidad, Colorado where they began running test to determine the cause. It was there that they found his white blood cells to be extremely high, his red blood cells, as well as, his platelets to be  very low. A pre-diagnosis of cancer was made but it was unclear as to the type. Jen immediately began calling her contacts at MD Anderson & a very stressful day & a half later, arrangements were made to have them flown from Colorado to Houston with medical staff so he could begin treatment at MD Anderson.   Avery showed no real symptoms of anything being wrong prior to this. He had said he was tired a few times, had said he had a headache & had a low fever over the last month. His pediatrician tested for the usual suspects, flu, strep, mono, all negative. He was also taken to the neurologist for his headaches & they said possibly migraines. All seemed normal for a kid his age. Luekemia symptoms can be subtle & come on slowly or rapidly.  On March 15, 2019, a bone biopsy was performed to extract & test his bone marrow.  A spinal puncture was also performed at this time to test the spinal fluid.  After these test were completed & results came back, a diagnosis was made of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. AML is a rare form of leukemia. We know that he truly is in the best place in the world to care for him & cure him. We are confident in the doctors at MD Anderson & their treatment plan.
