Ironman 70.3 for Youghal Lifeboat
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
My name is Filip and I am a recent UCC graduate, an aspiring age-group triathlete and an active beach lifeguard working and living in the beautiful south east of Cork, town of Youghal.
I have set big goals for myself this current year of 2020. Having graduated with a BSc degree in Physiology I checked off a major part of my plans. The other big one I set for this year was to make a debut in a Half (or 70.3) Ironman. As most of the Triathlon Ireland sanctioned races have been cancelled due to current Covid-19 pandemic, I decided to toe the start line on my own here in Youghal.
As most of us, especially recent graduates, we are uncertain what the future brings in these strange times of global pandemic. We do not know whether we get to move places, work or study where we intended to, before the virus derailed our plans. However, in case I get the chance to fulfill my dreams and move abroad for my postgraduate studies, I decided to give something back to my home community of Youghal, who welcomed and embraced me with open hands when I moved here from Poland with my family in 2014.
So there it goes... I will race against the clock on Saturday 29th August (7am start). I will swim 2km from my beloved Front Strand, where I worked since the summer of 2017 to Claycastle and back. Next up I will cycle 91km through Killeagh and Castlemartyr to turn at Lakeview Roundabout, back and around Youghal through N25 bypass climb, to U-turn back to Youghal at the Marine Bar ahead of Dungarvan. After coming of the bike again at Front Strand beachguard station, I will run 21.1km back and forth on the Youghal Beach prom. All of this, I aim to complete in less than 4 hours and 30 minutes, which will not be easy, I will have to ''go deep'' on the day. I would love this effort to be more just a PR for myself. I wish it could mean something for the place that gave home to my family, education, dreamed summer job and my passion, triathlon.
I hope you can help me raise money for my fellow lifesavers at RNLI Youghal Lifeboat. These guys help our community at the sea and do it completely for free! Who else but them, deserve our financial support especially during the down years when economy is hampered by the pandemic and social distancing.
I will hugely appreciate any donations and wish all your support for Youghal Lifeboat crew will give me that one more ''WHY'' when it's really gonna start to hurt late into my Half Ironman.
Thanks a million
Filip
