¡Hola! My name is Keith Harris. I am a student at Clark Atlanta University studying Mass Media Public Relations with a minor in Spanish. To those who know me, my life is defined by a single goal: advocacy.
Currently, I serve as a volunteer debate coach at a local Atlanta high school. Having seen how the power of speech and critical thinking changed my own life, I am dedicated to helping other people find their voices.
My journey has two major milestones ahead:
My dream is to serve in the Peace Corps for two years in South America, with a specific hope to serve the people of Costa Rica. I want to provide them with the same educational and leadership opportunities I have had the privilege of experiencing. However, to be accepted into this competitive program and effectively serve these communities, I must achieve a high level of Spanish proficiency.
Long-term, I plan to become a Criminal Defense Lawyer. In our legal system, language should never be a barrier to justice. In today’s climate, the need for Spanish-speaking attorneys is more critical than ever. Our most vulnerable populations are often without adequate representation. I am committed to becoming a bilingual attorney who can protect Spanish-speaking communities, ensuring that every individual receives a fair and equitable defense.
I’ve been accepted into the Middlebury Summer Language Immersion program in Vermont, and for 7 weeks, 49 days, and over 1,100 hours over the summer, I have committed to the "Language Pledge," a formal agreement to speak, hear, and write only Spanish.
I’ve already started preparing at home, much to the dismay of my friends and family, whom I’ve been speaking to exclusively in Spanish until they sometimes beg me to stop!
This program is the essential bridge between my life in Atlanta and my future in service. With the final tuition deadline approaching in May, I am raising $8,000 to cover:
$7,000: Tuition, Room, and Board for the 7-week intensive immersion.
$1,000: Travel and relocation expenses from Atlanta to Vermont.
I am turning to my community to ask for your support. Your donation is an investment in a future Peace Corps volunteer and a future advocate for justice.
No contribution is too small. Thank you for believing in my mission and helping me bridge the divide!
