Hi, my name is Gavin Dwyer, and I am a combat-wounded special operations veteran who is embarking on an exciting and challenging journey. I have set myself the goal of bringing 7 veterans, including myself, to climb the 7 highest peaks on each continent in an effort to raise money and awareness for veterans' mental health.
After serving my country for several years, I suffered a traumatic brain injury and a gunshot wound to the neck during a combat mission. Like many veterans, I found it challenging to adjust to civilian life after my discharge from the military.
But I refused to give up. I knew that I needed to find a way to heal and to help others who were struggling with similar challenges. That's when I decided to combine my passion for adventure with my desire to make a difference in the lives of veterans.
My journey to climb the 7 highest peaks on each continent is not just a physical challenge. It is also a mission to raise awareness for the mental health struggles that many veterans face. I hope to inspire others to seek help, start conversations about mental health, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
My journey began in 2019 when I was wounded on a combat operation in Afghanistan. Throughout my 4-month rotation, I received 3 TBIs and sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. After my military service ended in 2021, I continued to face struggles, this time in my personal life. Although I thought I was alone with these issues, I realized that many veterans struggle with the same challenges but are often afraid to talk about them.
My climb is not just a personal challenge. I hope to raise awareness for the important work that organizations do and to raise funds to support programs that assist veterans.
My journey is an inspiration to us all. I want to remind everyone that we can overcome even the greatest challenges and make a difference in the lives of others. If you want to support me on my journey, you can follow me on social media, donate to my fundraising campaigns, or start a conversation about mental health in your community.
Let's join my team and me on our mission to climb to new heights and raise awareness for veterans' mental health.
