Hi, we’re Louise Wallace and Olivier Quero, filmmakers in our final year at Met Film School, currently working on our graduation project called 7 Minutes, a personal and dreamlike short film that means a lot to both of us.

The story is inspired by the scientific study that looks into brain activity after death.

I think it's a common question that we all think about; what really happens after our heart stops? Our short film will explore this whilst showing beautiful, haunting and nostalgic memories from a young woman's life.

This is our final project at film school and having spent the last few years helping bring other people’s visions to life as producer and gaffer, we’re now creating something of our own as director and DOP. A project that reflects our creative styles alongside an extremely talented crew.

This is where we need your help. Your support can help bring this idea to life, safely and beautifully.

Logline

“In the minutes after her death, a woman is pulled back through the memories that shaped her and discovers the power, and danger, of rewriting her past.”

About

But what is the narrative actually about?

‘7 Minutes’ is a surreal exploration of the brain activity that occurs after the heart stops.

Alma, a young woman who dies unexpectedly, awakens in a dreamlike void a dark endless space shrouded in fog, a spotlight looming over her. She is greeted by a mysterious woman in white and a slowly emptying hourglass. Told that she has seven minutes left to relive her most defining memories, Alma walks through moments of love, loss, and childhood nostalgia.

At first, she observes. But soon, she begins to interfere, desperate to rewrite regret. As she does, her memories fracture: time loops, faces warp, and the beauty of her past begins to collapse.

Why This Idea?

I’ve always been fascinated by memory and how it defines us but also how it distorts over time and how much of our identity is built on moments we can never return to. ‘7 Minutes' was born from a simple but haunting idea: what would we do if we had just seven minutes to relive the life we’ve lived?

At its core, ‘7 Minutes’ is about memory, identity, and acceptance.

This film isn’t about death. It’s about the fragile beauty of being alive.

Main Character

Who is Alma?

Alma is thoughtful, quiet, and observant. Throughout the film, we follow her in a surreal space between life and death, revisiting key moments from her past — from childhood memories to moments of regret and acceptance.

Alma is a mirror. Representing the version of ourselves that carries childhood grief and the moments that shaped us.

Side Characters

The Woman In White - She exists within the film to guide Alma and present her with the rules along with the setting and world of ‘7 Minutes”. She is a symbolism of time, acceptance, fate but also self-realisation. She is the older version of Alma, who Alma could have or could become.

Other characters include teenage Alma and young Alma, both appear in memory sequences, reflecting the emotional moments of Alma’s life. While they don’t speak directly to Alma, they help to unravel who she was at different stages, allowing the audience to witness how time and memory shape identity.

Funding & Budget

Above you can see a pie chart which breaks down the £1,500 goal we have set for the budget of 7 Minutes. With the hope we can raise this, it will be allocated across multiple departments, helping to create a hauntingly beautiful and nostalgic short film.

If we receive funding over our goal, this will go towards festival applications and distributing 7 Minutes for multiple audiences to watch, a goal that all the crew has in mind for this ambitious and beautiful film.

Thank you for taking the time to read and support our project. With your help, we can make 7 Minutes!
