7 Marathons in 7 Weeks

Donation protected
Maisie, a beautiful Standard Poodle, came into our lives 11 months ago.  Maisie was paired with Louie by Dogs for the Disabled and she will be going into formal training shortly to become Louie's Stability Dog.

As some of you may know, Louie has a rare syndrome called Kabuki Syndrome.  As a result, Louie has some physical disabilites and a visual impairment.

With a stability dog, Louie will be able to walk independently of us safely and will give our wonderful 9 year old boy the independence he needs when out and about.

Since 2007, Dogs for the Disabled have been ethically breeding and training specially selected assistance dogs to carry out a range of practical tasks to assist profoundly disabled children and adults in order to achieve greater independence.

They train their assistance dogs to assist with practical, everyday tasks to help a person with a disability to live life to the full, breaking down barriers to the outside world and helping to improve confidence and stress levels.

Maisie comes from a litter of 10 puppies!  Each of those puppies will be trained to become Assistance Dogs for physically disabled children and adults.  It costs Dogs for the Disabled €15,000 to raise, train and care for a dog over their lifetime.  The dogs are provided to disabled partners free of charge and they don't receive any government funding.

As a family, we have been so privileged to have Maisie join us - she is just simply amazing and has been the most wonderful addition to our family, even before formal training.  It has been a difficult year for everyone with the Covid-19 Pandemic, but it has been especially hard for charities who have been unable to continue their normal fundraising efforts.

So, Ríain (12), and myself have decided to challenge ourselves to raise some money for Dogs for the Disabled.  We plan to complete the equivalent of 7 marathons between us, in 7 weeks.

Those of you that know me very well will know that exercise and me don't go hand in hand!

This might not sound like a lot per day to some people, but for us,  it's a lot.  Between school,  work and all the appointments we have with Louie,  we already have a busy week.

We really just want to give something back to help Dogs for the Disabled continue the wonderful work they do.
