A friend in need, is a friend in deed!

Hello friends & family! This is Donna. I am Markeita Wedlake's sister. I have a huge favor to ask of you. Markeita and Huggy are in need of help. I would not ask, if I didn't feel like they deserve your help. Here is where it begins:

Have you ever had someone tell you that if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all? And then comes, OHHH not again! Well, here's their story. . .

I know a couple of great people that would give you the shirt off their backs. Oh, you've heard that saying? Well, it’s true! OK let's just start with a Great couple that have had a great twelve years together and life seemed to be going great for them, with just some small hiccups, everybody has them.

Huggy and Keita married in August of 2011, just after Keita’s dad passed away in April. Despite this tragic event, they had a beautiful wedding on the sands of the Bahamas. Life seemed to be going great for them. They both had great jobs and were in a position to be able to extend their love to many families, friends, and acquaintances. Then in 2013, Cancer struck! Huggy was diagnosed with throat cancer. The treatment was chemotherapy and radiation. This treatment left him unable to properly chew and swallow some food. Even to this day, there are some foods he cannot swallow. Also, the radiation has left him with problems with his teeth. Just recently, he has had to have several removed. This made chewing even more difficult for him. In 2015, he suffered an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. He did survive this ordeal but is now under the care of a cardiologist. Between these two happenings, things started spiraling out of their control. They become financially responsible for many “large” medical bills. But eventually, they rose above them. In April of 2022, Keita was offered a position in her company, relocating to Nevada. What an opportunity! So, in May of 2022, they uprooted from California and moved to Nevada. They were finally going to be able to fulfill their dreams of owning their own home. And, that they did! Huggy was able to land a profitable job, and one he enjoyed! He started driving for Uber. (You know, he just loves to talk to people and tell his stories and listen to theirs. After being in Nevada for a couple of months, Keita’s job had to make reductions, and she was one of them. Being in a new town, employment was hard to find. But she did it! After being unemployed for 6+ months, she landed a new job, but not until their savings were nearing exhaustion. Struggling to stay afloat was difficult, but they were doing it, up until a few months ago. They started having issues with their vehicle, huge expensive issues. Every time they thought they were out of the red - bang something else unexpected happened. Well, the car is Huggy’s source of income. Keita’s car, after spending a ton of money on it, just found its final resting place!

Now we all know how hard it is to make a job change and a relocation. Finding new doctors is devastating! Recently, Huggy went to the doctor to start his cardiac care. It started with an ultrasound, that led to a CT of his heart, that then led to an angiogram. On Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, they were unable to place any stents and they were told he would have to have a quadruple bypass. This will be scheduled within the next couple of weeks. Once the surgery is over, it will be some time before he can return to work. Driving for Uber is being self-employed, so it comes with no benefits. Keita has insurance, but the cost is $800 a month from her paycheck, and they have to meet a very large deductible before it starts to pay. They are already racking up the medical bills with more left to come. Besides their medical bills, they are down an income. Once again, the spiraling has become unmanageable for them.

I am asking for your help! They have always been the first to help others in need. They are struggling! If you can find it in your heart to help them out of this struggle, or at least lessen it, I am sure they would be most grateful! Think back on your life and see where they have fit into it.? Keita has a big heart and been for others … monetarily, emotionally, physically, and prayerfully. Now it is our turn to be there for her and for Huggy. Any amount of help would be appreciated. If you are unable to help them, please keep them in your prayers. But both would be great!

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and please pass it along. Let’s show them how much we appreciate all they have done, all that they continue to do, and just how much we love them and what they mean to all of us.

Thoughts and Prayer for Keita & Huggy!!!
