Help Jeff get out of the house
Jeff is a forever friend. 40 years ago my husband Tom and I stood up for Jeff and Barb at their wedding. Jeff was there for us when my Tommy was dying 9 years ago. He and Tommy had been buddys since grammar school. Jeff has been suffering from a rare progressive neuromuscular disease called Joseph's or Machado's disease. It is hereditary. Jeff was there everyday for his father when he suffered with it. The disease causes progressive weakness, and last year Jeff became wheelchair bound, unable to walk as the disease became worse. He and his wife Barb brought up 2 wonderful children, Justin and Beverly. Unfortunately they lost their beloved Justin 2 years ago. Justin used to be able to pick his Dad up when he needed to. Jeff can no longer get out of the house. It is a safety issue and he cannot get to the doctors unless they pay for an ambulance service. The family has gone through all their savings and the insurance will not pay for a stair lift. The house is split level and a ramp is cost prohibitive because of the height. They have an estimate for a chair/stair lift to get from the main floor to the ground floor. $4,000 would cover the cost. Anything, any amount would be helpful. We have exhausted all other possibilities. It would be soo wonderful if Jeff could get outside for the summer!
