The hardest thing is to feel so powerless, useless and having no control. Seeing the man who raised you, who left his birth country to come to the US so he can provide a better life for his family, depart this earth is one of the most difficult things experienced. We had our ups and downs but nonetheless we prevailed from any difficult situation that was thrown in front of us. In life you can't have the good without the bad. We'll miss your smile, yours songs and the way you found humor in everything.
Just a bit of a background of the man that he was:
Our father, was having a difficult time providing for his family in Mexico, so he decided to make a tough bold decision to leave his family and come to the USA in search of a better life and opportunity. He promised us that one day he will have enough money so we can all join him stateside. Throughout his time away from us he kept in touch and sent us gifts. He made sure that we always had what we needed. He was a firm believer of the American dream and to his family he is a symbol and product of the American Dream. In 1995, he was able to keep his promise and he brought his wife, sons and daughter to the USA. Seeing that smile and happiness on his face when he saw us after not seeing us for a long time, is a memory that will forever be ingrained in our lives.
He was lovable, passionate, resourceful, stubborn, sometimes grumpy, a risk taker, hard worker, dedicated, funny, innovator, charismatic, musically talented, ambitious, adventurous, story teller and curious. Throughout our lives we had our ups and downs just like any other family, we had family issues, financial issues, lost jobs, lost homes, basically anything life could throw at us but one of his best qualities was that no matter what came his way he always managed to find a way to make it through. He always rose from all the challenges that life threw at him and always managed to see the positive in things. He kept finding solutions to problems. He'd always had a plan, thinking about the next big thing, his next big adventure. He had many businesses such as buying and selling produce, selling antiques, buying and selling abandoned storage units and even selling cars. He made sure that his family always had food at the table and a roof above our heads.
He was diagnosed with Liver Cancer and Cirrhosis in November 2018. Cancer treatments are expensive and required a lot of time in the hospital but he didn't let that stop him. A hard worker, a man that always fought for his family. He worked until the very end.
He loved his 10 grandchildren. Always smiling he liked music and singing to his grandchildren. He lost the battle to cancer on March 7 2019 at 3:00 PM leaving a great pain in us, his 3 children, and our dear mother, his wife. At the moment we feel devastated and find it hard to believe that he is no longer with us.
Although he may be gone, he will never be forgotten.
