Hi, my name is Stephanie. Harry and I came together to organize this fundraiser for our friends son with leukemia. Bobby and amber just got married in September. As they started their lives together with their kids, Connor, their youngest, became sick. On October 21, 2022 Amber and Bobby took their 2 year old son, Connor, to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Connor had been sick on and off for the past 6 months, each time with a fever. Unfortunately, we live in a COVID restrictive world, so his appointments with his pediatrician were always set up as telehealth due to the fever. Although he appeared to get better each time, he very quickly fell ill again. This time Connor had been sick for about a week, and seemed to be getting worse. He was weak, tired, feverish, and was not eating and drinking as he normally would. He was very pale, his lips were dry and chapped, and he did not look well. So, Amber and Bobby decided it was time to get him more advance medical care and get some better information as to what could be going on. And thankfully they did. If they had delayed making that decision by just a mere few hours Connor may not still be with us.
When Connor first arrived at the ER, the nurses assumed they would give him some fluids, run some blood work, and send them on their way back home. But as the blood work results started coming back, it was quickly realized something more serious was going on. Connor’s blood work results showed that his blood counts were extremely low. His hemoglobin was a 2, when it should be above 10. After consulting with some specialist, they were informed Connor most likely had leukemia or aplastic anemia. He would go through advance testing on Monday. In the meantime, they would start blood transfusions to get his numbers back up.
Within Connor’s first 24 hours in the hospital, he was admitted to the ICU, received 7 blood transfusions, 2 bags of platelets, started on an antibiotic and placed on medication to protect his kidneys since his levels were so low and his uric acid levels so high. Connor also had to have a PICC line placed to assist with the blood transfusions, as well as receive an NG tube to assist with his nutritional needs.
As Monday came and went, we all held our breaths as we awaited the results. On Wednesday, Bobby and Amber received the news; Connor was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. On Thursday, he would receive a spinal tap and start his first chemotherapy treatment.
Connor as a long road ahead of him. He is a very smart, strong young boy who has handled the past week like a champ, and who we have no doubt will kick cancers butt and show it whose boss. But, it will be a long road, and one with many struggles and uncertainties as the family explores this new world of hospital stays, chemo treatments, continuous testing, and so much more.
As any parents with a sick a child, Amber and Bobby have remained by Connor’s side since they took him to the hospital last Thursday. But, the world does not stop outside of those hospital walls, waiting for you to be able to come back out. Bobby and Amber both work, they have a 4 year old at home, and 2 additional children. There are jobs to get to, bills to pay, and other things to consider. We would like to see all of that other stuff not be such a worry during this time, and get to see them remain by Connor’s side for however long that may be, without all of those additional stressors having to be at the forefront of their minds.
We are putting this gofundme together to help assist Amber and Bobby during this time, so that their main focus can be Connor and the beginning of his journey to kick cancer in the butt.
Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go directly to the needs of this family during this time. We understand not everyone has the ability to assist in a financial manner, so at the very least we ask, that if you are reading this, please pass it on, and please keep Connor in your thoughts and prayers. We will provide updates throughout Connor’s journey. Thank you.
