We are raising funds in support of Kamilla's family. All of the proceeds will go directly to supporting her ongoing medical care. She is a 12 year old who was diagnosed with brain cancer 7 years ago. Wise beyond her years, Kamilla is bright, creative and courageous! We're joining her in praying for a miracle. Below is her story from our dear coworker and Kamilla's mama, Luiza.

My name is Luiza Uralova, and I’m the mother of Kamilla, my oldest of three children. Kamilla was only 5 years old when she was first diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Our world turned upside down.

She underwent multiple open brain surgeries, intensive chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant treatments (BMT), radiation treatments, ports, and long periods of inpatient rehabilitation. Kamilla had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat — all the basic things — all over again. After a year of rigorous treatment, she entered remission.

Less than a year later, in 2020, the cancer-tumor returned. A second round of treatments began — more surgeries, another course of radiation, chemotherapy, ports, feeding tubes, and all the physical and emotional toll that came with it.

Kamilla bravely beat the odds again. She was recovering — her feeding tube was removed, she started eating normally, attending regular school, and even ringing the remission bell. Things seemed to be improving, and it looked like the worst had passed.

However, in June 2024, after a routine MRI, we were devastated to learn that the cancer had returned — this time in two separate areas of her brain, now considered metastatic.

Her medical team explained that there is no approved treatment protocol and no research/study available for this stage of recurrence. We were given a choice: to stop treatment and focus on quality of life, or to try an experimental clinical trial offering a small hope of extending her life. We chose to fight again.

Kamilla is currently undergoing a new combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, along with radiation surgery. At the moment, she is experiencing a number of severe side effects, including hair loss, nausea, fatigue, growth stunting, and others. We are also facing challenges with slowed cognitive processing and difficulty retaining new information. We are doing our best to manage all of this.

While her doctors are honest that the goal now is not to cure but to give us more time, we remain hopeful and committed — praying for a miracle and trying to provide Kamilla with every possible chance. Kamilla is now 12 years old, and her battle with cancer has been ongoing for 7 years.

Cancer has stolen so much from Kamilla — her childhood, time with friends, the joy of learning and going to school. It took away her ability to grow and develop like other children her age. She’s had to fight for every step — to walk again, to learn again, to catch up with her peers. Even now, this journey leaves its mark: she works harder at school; she learns every day how to be confident in society, and she continues to overcome the side effects from previous and continuing cancer treatments. It has changed her hair, her height, her body, and even the way she learns. It touches her emotions too — sometimes making the world feel heavier than it should for a child. But cancer could not take her faith in miracles. It could not take her kindness, her open heart, or the beauty of her soul. It could not steal her ability to smile — a smile that can light up a room and travel miles. She remains full of light, positivity, and the strength to keep moving forward even through the hardest days.

Kamilla has discovered her love for art and has recently begun exploring music. She even started her own little jewelry business, where she pours her creativity and expresses who she is. Watching her create something with her own hands, turning her pain into beauty, is one of the most inspiring things for me as her mother.

Kamilla is a true fighter and a hero. Every challenge she faces, she meets with courage and determination. Her siblings and our entire family are always by her side, supporting her, celebrating her victories, and helping her face each day with strength, love, and hope.

As a parent walking this journey with her, I can say that what has carried us through the darkest nights is holding on to positivity and never letting go of our belief in miracles. That belief is our strength, our shield, and our guide. We refuse to give fear or despair even a single moment of space. Together, with love, faith, and hope, we continue to fight — and that is where our true power lies.
