Hey guys, Kylie here. I'll be doing a 48hr non-stop Adventure Challenge with a team of 4, in June 2022.
The reason for this is due to my 6yr old niece Mila who is currently battling brain cancer and I’m wanting to do something in her honor, to raise awareness & funds towards Brain Cancer. Our chosen charity is The Mark Hughes Foundation.
In November last year, Mila was diagnosed with Stage 3 Mid-Brainstem Glioma. Her tumor is growing on her brain behind her right eye. She started her treatment straight away, with radiation. Which was an everyday thing, Mon-Fri, with weekends off. She did this for 5week straight. And finished her last day of radiation on the 30th Dec. We had a little scare a couple of weeks ago & she was rushed to Brisbane hospital via ambulance due to increased fluid on the brain causing her headaches and drowsiness. She had surgery to insert a draining tube under her skin from her brain to her stomach. Now we have the dreaded wait until March for an MRI scan, to check for any growth.
So the race. My team of 4 - “Every Mila-meter counts” is myself, my bestie Kristy Monks, and 2 of my bros from my gym, Josh Phillips & Matt Fahey. We will be tackling the 48hr non stop GeoQuest Adventure Race on the weekend of 10-13th June in Shoal Bay, NSW. We must stay together the whole time. The race is approx. 150km in total, across 3 disciplines. Trekking, MTBing and Kayaking. Navigating the course will be a huge part of it. So map reading with check points along the way.
As we’re all novices to this type of challenge, it will no doubt be tough mentally & physically. Quitting is not an option. Cancer sucks & sooo many families are affected by it, in one way or another. If we can help, just this little bit…then let’s at least try.
So PLEASE get behind us, get behind the cause, donate to the link attached. Any little bit helps. We’re hoping to raise anything upwards of $5000. All monies raised will be going to The Mark Hughes Foundation & their ongoing research into Brain Cancer & finding a cure. If we end up with any extra, we’ll be gifting it to Mila and her family to help towards any financial costs.
Your support means the world to myself, my team, and our family.
Lastly, huge thank you to our sponsors. Simon & his crew at Allambie Care. You guys are truly amazing. Also, my brothers business, Zac Royal Painting. If anyone needs some painting work done, he’s your man.
Alright….wish us luck & bring on The GeoQuest in June.
