Movement on the Ground - Morocco earthquake emergency relief.
I am Adil Izemrane, Founder/CEO of the Dutch NGO Movement on the Ground. For the past 8 years our organization has been responding with our unique "from camp to campUs" approach to events of mass displacement of people around the world due to war, conflict and natural disasters.
Morocco has been hit by a devastating earthquake taking near to 3000 lives. Immediate assistance is crucial and we have been responding with a SAR team and search and rescue activities for survivors.
We will be providing basic needs like food, water, shelter and electricity for the short and long term rehabilitation of the people in difficult to reach and worst hit villages.
Items to be distributed by our teams will be sourced locally to support the local economy:
- Electricity power generator
- Emergency toilets
- Matrasses
- Solar lamps
- Food
In coordination with the Moroccan officials and in close collaboration with local humanitarian actors we are and will continue to offer urgent assistance and first response on the ground for the short and mid term. By including and enabling the locals from the very first minute we are maximizing the humanitarian response to the affected people. The particular regions we are addressing momentarily are families living on the street in Marrakech, the epicenter, Asni and Tinzert area. These areas are challenging to reach due to the environmental landscape and impact of the earthquake.
Time is of essence as winter is coming and temperatures will drop rapidly!
