Help for Houdini

Background

Many of you may know the Osborne Family's 14 yr old son Sterling, affectionately known by his family and friends as "Houdini". You may also know that Sterling has always had a heart for animals and has a close bond with his cat, Leo, which has
inspired him to go into veterinary medicine. At the beginning of the year, Sterling started feeling an ache in his shoulder that would not go away after several
weeks. General doctors took x-rays and put him in a sling thinking he had injured his rotator cuff, but after a few months had passed his shoulder began bothering
him again.

The family then took him to an orthopedic surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital. The
doctor there took new x-rays, but still couldn't determine the cause of the pain.
He ordered an MRI on June 4th and that was when they discovered a tumor. After a biopsy at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, it was confirmed as Ewing Sarcoma. This is a rare form of cancer that affects the
bone and soft tissue of young adolescents and sometimes adults. A subsequent
PET scan also revealed a small spot on his left knee.

The Path Forward
As with any form of cancer, the treatment had to begin as soon as possible.
Advancements in the treatment of Ewing sarcoma have helped improve the
outlook for people with this cancer and because of these advancements, doctors
have given Sterling a survival rate of 80-90%. Their aggressive treatment plan of 14 rounds of chemotherapy over 28 weeks, followed by surgery to remove the
tumor and reconstruct his shoulder, and radiation are his best shot at shrinking
and removing the tumor before it can metastasize which would cause the rate of
survival to drop. In addition, Sterling is so young he will likely have to have
another surgery later to accommodate his shoulder’s growth.

While those treatments are available, they are not free and despite insurance, the Osborne family will soon have mounting bills as Sterling is now going into his 2nd of the 14 rounds of chemotherapy. On their behalf, I humbly ask that we all pitch
in. Even small donations can add up quickly and the focus can remain on the race
to recovery instead of the finances.

The Goal
We are striving to raise $100,000.00 in order to provide for deductibles for the
treatment, out of pocket costs for medications, as well as any travel expenses that the family may run into. The Osborne family believes that God is bigger than
Ewing Sarcoma and knows that He will bring them through this.

They believe that God will provide and are hoping He will use this GoFundMe as  an outlet for that.

On behalf of the Osborne family, please accept my many heartfelt thanks.

Cheers,

Rob
