On Wednesday the 23rd Brandon was on his way to Florida with us. When we stopped in Tennessee for the night. Before getting into the hotel Brandon began having a grand mal seizure. The squad was called and Brandon was transported to the hospital where he had additional seizures. When he was stabilized he was in severe pain. A CT scan revealed a T12 spinal burst fracture and he was transferred to a higher level of care facility where he had emergent neurosurgery. He was in surgery for around 6 hours. The surgeon said this was the worst seizure related injury he has seen. He suspected that because of Brandon's strong muscle tone that the body compressed the spinal cord when he was seizing and caused the injury. Brandon is awake and progressing slowly. The area of injury controls leg movement, bowels, and bladder. He is currently struggling in all of those areas and needing medical intervention (suppositories, intermittent catheterization). They are saying it's 50/50 whether he recovers to his normal but these things take time. They are working on sitting him up and plan to have physical therapy into evaluate him. The next step in the plan is to transfer him into an inpatient intensive physical therapy rehabilitation center for a few weeks and then to travel to Florida to be with Jen and continue outpatient therapy. Funds are needed for medical costs and for transportation to allow travel to be with Brandon intermittently. If you can donate in any amount it is appreciated. Your prayers mean the most as well. Thank you.
