Feed the Future Hope of Haiti: The Children

Last year, you kept hope alive for children and families in Gros Morne, Haiti. This year, we of the Lincoln County Ecumenical Committee for Haiti are asking for your support to raise $20,000. The needs are even greater this year. We are launching an all-out effort to provide at least one nutritious meal a day to the children of the schools in Gros Morne. The children are Haiti's hope.

The 2023 GoFundMe campaign was crucial in raising $19,100, which was spent primarily on food for school lunches. Since half the population is experiencing acute hunger conditions, money contributed for specific projects was reallocated to address food insecurity. The school lunch program is often the only meal a child eats in a day. Decision-making by the community leaders in Haiti was a collaborative, prayerful process.

Breakdown of the funds:

Violent gangs control much of the country and they have cut off supply lines for food. Food, which is normally brought from the country into the cities, is blockaded by the gangs. Many of the international suppliers have withdrawn their support due lawlessness. The country is at a standstill. The U.N. warns there is a possibility of famine. Therefore, food security is our primary focus for the campaign this year.

Last year with your support, we were able to feed children and families, when the situation in Haiti seemed impossible. But this year, the conditions in Gros Morne are even more desperate. You might ask yourself, why should I give to a country that seems to have no solution on the horizon? Our efforts help a crucial percentage of the population – the children. Those who receive one meal a day to keep them from starvation may become the leaders of their country. None of this would be possible without you, our supporters. Please make a generous contribution.
