Relief Support for Beirut
Donation protected
On the 4th of August a catastrophe hit Lebanon, at the Beirut Port, amidst a global pandemic, economic crisis and hyper inflation of the local currency (Almost 80% since the revolution began in October).
This is not taking into consideration, the power cuts (which often lead up to 22 hours a day, impacting hospital efficiencies), mounting poverty and a staggering unemployment rate.
Using a dimensional analysis, it was estimated that the energy contained in the Beirut explosions is approximately 12 Terajouls which is equivalent to 3 Kilotons of TNT. As a reference - the little boy dropped on Hiroshima was 13-18 Kilotons of TNT.
This disaster has left the city of Beirut, with shattered glass, collapsing roofs and destroyed buildings. In the first 24 hours, the Lebanese authorities reported 100+ deaths, 4,000+ injuries and an estimated 300,000 Lebanese citizens homeless without shelter, food or water amidst a pandemic.
This is the most difficult time for Lebanon in modern history - we (Nour Araji, Nellie Awad and Leila Kamareddine), three Lebanese young professionals working abroad decided to take matters into their own hands by creating a modest go fund me page.
We aim to raise 10,000$ to help provide medical equipments along with supporting the work of the Lebanese Civil Defense on the ground. We will also support families impacted by the disaster through local organizations serving on the ground such as the Lebanese Red Cross.
Transparency:
We will share updates on our go fund me page regarding the distribution of money. We will only work with trustworthy and vetted organizations on the ground.
Thank you for your donation and helping us rebuild and restore our country.
You have given hope to thousands of recasted Lebanese families.
