As many of you know, a few years ago we created a GoFundMe to help my dad prepare for a kidney transplant. At the time, we were hopeful the call would come soon, but it took a few more years of waiting, medical appointments, and living with the challenges of kidney failure.
In September, Dad finally received the long-awaited call and travelled to Halifax with Mom, ready for the transplant. When they arrived, they were told he wouldn’t be receiving the kidney after all due to a suspected infection. It was an emotional setback after so much waiting and preparation. They returned home that same day and braced themselves for the next call.
Last Wednesday night, that call finally came for real this time. Dad and Mom travelled back to Halifax, and on Friday, Dad received his kidney. We are incredibly grateful for this second chance and for the care he has received throughout the process.
Dad will remain in Halifax for at least another week while he recovers and continues his post-transplant monitoring. As you can imagine, the financial strain of travel, accommodations, time away from home, and ongoing recovery costs adds up quickly.
Many people have asked how they can continue to help, and for that reason, we are reopening support for Dad as he moves through this next stage of recovery. Every contribution, share, or message of support is deeply appreciated.
We also want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already reached out with donations, messages, and well wishes. Your kindness and support mean more to our family than we can express.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
