Reason:The main reason for this GoFundMe is to raise money to send Kamryn for a private, one on one, multi-day consultation with a Swedish doctor who specializes in spinal cord injuries, but it’s also for other options we (really just Jennifer) have been looking into that insurance does not apply...but this doctor is expensive, and does not travel to the states often, so spots are limited and far apart and, of course once again, insurance does not apply. We scheduled an appointment in early June this year — in Orlando, the closest this doctor is getting to us in Louisiana — and put a deposit down to hold our spot because we believe in the work she is doing with spinal injuries. The therapy Kamryn is getting now is based off of this Swedish doctor’s practice but an in-person consultation will result in a very specific type of therapy for her. The doctor will thoroughly assess Kamryn’s condition to increase her chances of further recovery. Jen and I feel like this is a big opportunity to make Kamryn’s quality of life better. As her parents and most convicted supporters, we believe it’s worth the effort to get her there to meet this doctor. We need your help!There are procedures and therapies that insurance does not pay for at all, which is another reason we are doing a GoFundMe. We are trying to stay focused on Kamryn's recovery 100% and forget about all this "other" stuff but its hard when all this is hanging over your head constantly. As most of you know, Jennifer had to quit teaching after the accident to take care of Kamryn. Jennifer was a dedicated teacher with 13 years of service & she loves teaching so it was an emotional decision on both sides. We still have an AirMed flight bill of about $60,000 that insurance won’t pay that we’re working on, among other med bills, for all the constant doctor check ups, procedures, therapies, med supplies that Kamryn needs. We are making it work but need the help now to get Kamryn to this very special appointment. Back Story:Kamryn was on vacation in Colorado with her grandparents in the summer of 2017 and one day, she and her twin sister Keagan went hiking. While hiking, she slipped off the side of a mountain and fell 70 feet hitting trees, rocks, and debris, the whole way down. She laid critically hurt on the side of a mountain hours before being rescued. That fall broke her back in 2 places, broke 5 ribs, shattered her right elbow and had numerous internal bruises not to mention she was cut/scraped on almost her entire body but somehow didn’t sustain head trauma. Kamryn has lost motor and sensory function from the break down (T5 & T6 vertebrae) which is the mid torso region, so she is paralyzed. She temporarily lost the use of her right pinky and ring finger due to the extensive elbow break. Somehow she did not suffer any brain/head trauma, so she is still Kamryn mentally. Since the injury (July 15, 2017) she has had two back surgeries (spine is fused together with rods from T1-T10) , 1 elbow surgery (4 pins placed to stabilize it) and a ton of other procedures to help her heal. She spent one month at Children's Hospital of Colorado & 1 month at Texas Children's Hospital for recovery. Medical expenses have been rolling in since day one and haven't stopped.
