No Life For a Beautiful Young Soul

I'm Kassidy's dad this beautiful girl is my daughter before she became sick. She is now a shadow of her former self. My beautiful 23 year old daughter is starving and it's not because food isnt available to her. Kassidy suffers from Gastroparesis or Paralysed Stomach which has taken 6 years to diagnose. Kassidy spends most of her time in & out of hospital on intravenous fluids as the only way to stop her body shutting down threw lack of fluids and sustenance. She has constant feelings of hunger as can never fill her stomach. Her symptoms cause excruciating pain she likens to shards of broken glass in her stomach, which often blows up to 4 times it usual size, she suffers from constant nausea, as a result she begins to deluge vomit ( non stop ) causing her blood pressure to drop and ultimately she passes out. More recently this then results in fits while she is unconscious. This is a debilitating disease that has caused her to have dangerous weight loss, at her lowest dropping to 32kg. Currently she is maintaining her weight at 43kg mainly with a liquid diet but her doctors hope for her to maintain a safe weight of around 55kg. At present there is no cure for this disease and in most cases it results in sufferers having to have permanent feeding tubes inserted into the small intestine to bypass their stomach which is unable to process food and in cases even fluids. The constant vomiting has also had a detrimental effect on her teeth with the stomach acids destroying many of them requiring costly implants to replace them. It is also putting undue pressure on her heart and mental well being as the best years of her young adult life have been spent in pain, lacking any quality of life unable to be the social out going kid she once was. Kassidy will more than likely never be able to work as, as often as she gets sick she could never hold down a job. It is unsafe for her to be left alone as the effects can hit at any time causing her to vomit uncontrollably, pass out with the risk of hitting her head and choke on her vomit. Kassidy has been so brave through all her pain and procedures that we are nothing but proud of her. The most upsetting thing for Kassidy is she may never be able to fulfill her dream of being a mother as her health and weight makes it impossible for her to safely carry a baby. She is also missing out on the best young years of her life unable to socialise with her friends for any extended period of time. Up until very recently her mother and my biggest fear is that she may relent to the depression caused by her relentless illness and give up her fight, however recent events have changed this for me with another beautiful soul from her online Gastroparesis group (Ruby Hill ❤RIP) passing away from the illness, this really hit Kass's condition home for me. Our hope is that we can raise enough funds to find specialist help that can offer alternative solutions to her condition, get private health care if possible (very hard to get cover as its an existing condition) so she isnt left langishing in pain on waiting lists for vital operations and that where necessary we can have care for her when we are unable to be with her 24/7 and help with her dietary needs. Kassidy is currently on a public waiting list to have a drastic procedure to cut her stomach muscles in a hope this will enable her stomach to better cope with food. If this operation is unsuccessful it could result in Kassidy having a permanent feeding tube inserted which in itself comes with it's own risks. Please if you are able to spare even a little to help return some quality of life to Kassidy it would be greatly appreciated. We understand not everyone that reads Kassidy's story may be able to spare anything as everyone has their own battles but please feel free to share her story as more awareness of this condition would not only benefit Kass but other sufferers as well. Thank you for taking the time to read her story. ❤
