Please Support the Florence Nightingale Museum

Please donate now to help the Florence Nightingale Museum survive and thrive in the wake of COVID-19.

Nursing, washing your hands and evidence based-healthcare, all pioneered by Florence Nightingale, have become more important than ever before and we’re calling upon our friends and supporters to help us preserve her story and legacy.

The Florence Nightingale Museum is a small independent charity celebrating the life and work of the best known figure in nursing history.  Our NHS nurses have done an incredible job fighting Covid-19; we’re here to preserve and celebrate the memory of one of our most loved nurses. Florence Nightingale was one of our greatest Victorians, the founder of modern nursing, a healthcare pioneer and a female icon and we’re looking for your help to continue telling her story and the wider story of our nurses and healthcare professionals across 2020 as we celebrate her bicentenary and the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Why we need your help

The Museum is grateful to all the incredible outpouring of support it received during lock-down and we would not have survived or been able to re-open without your help.  Sadly, as more information emerges for our sector, the Museum is still at great risk of permanent closure and must continue to fundraise for our future.

Research suggests that many sectors including ours won’t recover until Summer 2022 with only 50% of visitors returning over the next two years. Tourism has dropped dramatically and key income that we earn through welcoming international visitors, schools, groups as well as hosting events have gone.  As businesses slowly start to re-open, transportation is still intimidating for many and there is a notable lack of appetite to return to visitor attractions – as reflected in our ticket sales.

The Museum has committed to re-opening and providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone but we’re losing money every day.  We must therefore continue our fundraising campaign more than ever to help us make up for losses until such time that some stability returns.

It is not an easy step to ask for help.  We know and understand, and have personally experienced, that this crisis has put many people, their jobs and workplaces in financial difficulty and will have a lasting impact on all of us for years to come.  We know that there are people who care about Florence’s legacy and we’re asking people to donate whatever they can to support us - even small donations are wholeheartedly welcome so that we can continue our purpose as a museum to care for a historically significant collection and to inspire the next generation of healthcare workers.

Thank you for your support.
