Hi everyone, me, my sister, and my dad are asking for help for my mom during an extremely difficult time for our family.

On November 18th, my mom was up in the attic getting our Christmas decorations when she accidentally stepped on drywall and fell straight through the ceiling, landing on the concrete garage floor about a 10-foot fall. The impact left her with multiple serious injuries: both shoulders fractured, her left heel and ankle fractured, and four broken ribs. She is going into surgery today, and the recovery ahead will be long and painful.

Her orthopedic surgeon told us she won’t be able to move her arms for 6 weeks and won’t be able to put any weight on her left leg for 3 months. This means she will need round-the-clock help for even the most basic tasks.

Unfortunately, her insurance will not cover home health care, rehab, or many of the additional medical expenses she now needs. On top of that, my mom will be losing her income for at least the next 6 months while she recovers, and we do not have any emergency savings to fall back on. As a family, we are trying our best to support her, but the financial burden is becoming overwhelming.

My mom is 62 years old and a two-time breast cancer survivor. Truly the bravest and strongest person I know. She has already fought so many battles, and seeing her go through this is heartbreaking.

El 18 de noviembre, mi mamá estaba en el ático sacando las decoraciones de Navidad cuando, accidentalmente, pisó un pedazo de drywall y cayó directamente a través del techo, aterrizando en el piso de concreto del garaje, una caída de aproximadamente 10 pies. El impacto le dejó múltiples lesiones graves: ambos hombros fracturados, el talón y el tobillo izquierdos fracturados, y cuatro costillas rotas. Hoy entra a cirugía y la recuperación que le espera será larga y dolorosa.

Su ortopedista nos dijo que no podrá mover los brazos durante 6 semanas y no podrá apoyar su pierna izquierda durante 3 meses. Esto significa que necesitará ayuda las 24 horas del día, incluso para las tareas más básicas.

Lamentablemente, su seguro no cubre el cuidado de salud en casa, la rehabilitación ni muchos de los gastos médicos adicionales que ahora necesita. Además, mi mamá perderá su ingreso por lo menos durante los próximos 6 meses mientras se recupera, y no tenemos ahorros de emergencia para soportar esta situación.
