THE BACKSTORY
On Friday, February 15th, Soren was admitted into the ICU at Wake Med Cary with what seemed to be a severe reaction to the flu. After being brought to emergency due to a very low blood pressure, it was discovered that what she had was a bacterial Pneumonia, coupled with a Meta pneuro virus that resulted in what is known as Septic Shock. Septic shock is a dangerous blood infection that resulted because of the other two issues. This infection began to effect her the performance of her heart and kidneys resulting in extensive IV fluids, multiple antibiotics and extensive testing to determine the extent of possible organ damage due to the infection.
By Saturday night she had been transferred to ICU-Cardiac Unit at Duke University hospital. By Sunday morning her vitals were improving and she was breathing better. While she still wasn’t awake much, there were a few times that she was able to communicate through sign language while being intubated. Her vitals and kidney function were becoming stable.
As of Monday night things had dramatically improved. While Soren is not out of the woods, Soren has been removed from the ventilator. She was awake and alert and they were managing her discomfort in her throat, as well as a headache. They were closely monitoring her vitals, but this was the best she had been in days! She would continue on with the virus and pneumonia treatment plan.
On Thursday the doctors told us that Soren's blood is FREE from infection! (enter happy dance!) She performed some PT yesterday (Wednesday) and was up walking with assistance. Her breathing has improved and she is receiving much less oxygen.
We are still fiercely praying for Soren. She has a long way to go with occupational therapy (getting dressed, brushing teeth, everyday tasks) and she has proven to be a very hard blood draw with all of the swelling in her extremities.
Our prayer as a student ministry volunteer team this entire time is that she would "be able to move to the next, less critical, room", the last room being her dorm at Meredith! She is well on her way and we ask that you continue to pray with us that she will be back at Meredith soon!

THE COST
While Soren is covered by insurance, we all know there are still some hefty bills that come along with deductibles, out of pocket maximums and out of network providers. We are hoping to raise $10,000.00 to help alleviate some of the cost for the Bradley family!
