Hi, my name is Sung Yun Lee and I am fundraising to help David Kim, his wife Hyojin Kim (Jinny), and their loving daughter Juliet during a critical time in their lives.

David and his family have been long term members of our church (First Korean Church of NJ) and close family friends of ours for close to two decades. God has provided David and Hyojin with many talents with which they have served our church in numerous capacities (choir, teaching in nursery/sunday/korean school programs, President of the women's group, Head deacon of the young adults student group etc.). They have enriched so many lives through their service and leadership, and in this time of need I feel compelled to share their story with those that will open their hearts to helping them.

On Sunday, April 23rd 2023, David fell at church during choir practice and was immediately rushed to the ER where it was determined that he had a seizure. Doctors successfully induced a coma on David so as to slow down the bleeding in his brain which had grown to approximately 3cm in diameter. For the last 3 weeks, he has been in the ICU facing many complications along the way. But, by the grace of God and the prayers and concerns of many people, David has made progress every week. His wife Hyojin has been by his side staying vigilant and strong through the entire process. With the faith that God will heal David, the family continues stay positive, visiting and taking care of David by playing hymns, talking to him and massaging him to stimulate his senses. In the past week they have noticed him responding to their stimulation by nodding or moving his hands, and even appearing to listen and understand them at sometimes. These developments have become a huge sign of hope and inspiration for the family and friends. Although we have faith that God will return David to good health, it is also expected that it will be a long uphill battle to get his bodily functions back (breathing and eating on his own; getting back his speech and mobility).

During the time David has been in the hospital I learned that he has been unemployed for a few months. His medical insurance under the previous employer had expired in February. With David being the main source of income for the family, I can only assume that this puts the family in a financial crisis to deal with both the medical expenses as well as basic living expenses.....

At Hyojin request, I have had the privilege to interact and update David's friends and colleagues about his condition and progress. Through these interactions I came to realize that David is blessed with many former colleagues and friends that deeply care for him and want to help. With so many expressing the desire to provide financial support, we decided to started a Gofundme campaign to help the Kim family. All funds raised will be provided to the Kim family to support them with both medical and day to day expenses.
