Here's the story:
Oni came into my life ten years ago by sheer chance, and has been my constant companion since. He has been my rock through tumultuous periods, and is partially responsible for my recovery from deep, self-destructive depression. He's a gorgeous, goofy part-Siamese who has been my joy and my comfort.
Just about two weeks ago, his health crashed suddenly. He stopped eating, and we immediately rushed him to the vet. He was severely dehydrated, and the diagnosis came in that his kidney function is reduced to 25%. He's an old guy, and this is a fairly common problem. My parents generously paid for an overnight IV therapy treatment, and we saw him improve enough to eat when he came home. Many of my friends also stepped up to help, donating over $100 towards additional fluid treatments. We've had him on subcutaneous fluid treatments for just over a week.
We took him back into the vet a couple of days ago, and discovered that the toxic levels of creatinine and blood urea nitrogen had dropped significantly, but his dehydration level had not improved significantly enough using the subcutaneous treatment. We were advised that direct intravenous therapy would be more effective in rehydrating him than the subcutaneous route.
My parents can no longer afford to help me with paying for his treatment, and the $250 for three days of IV treatment is just not doable for me. I am a working artist, and my cash flow is just not enough to handle any more. I spent most of my remaining money on the initial exam and testing. Generally, I am prepared for a vet exam, testing, and medication, but this is more of a medical emergency than I was prepared to pay for. We want to get him for treatment within the next week.
I am not ready to let my little guy go yet. He's been there for me through so much, and it's only fair that I do the same for him. I'm not asking for a hand out from anyone, and am offering reward levels. The $550 I am asking for is to cover the IV therapy treatment and to create a slush fund for any unforeseen veterinary expenses that may come up afterwards, as well as any possible fees assessed by Gofundme and WePay, the two sites involved in this fundraising.
Please. I'm desperate. This little guy has been a part of my life for so long, and I'm just not ready to experience life without him just yet.
Thank you for your help.
**UPDATED 2/16: I have adjusted the goal amount at the advice of my mother. When I set up the initial fundraiser, I was unaware of current expenditures. We're already $400 into treatments with more to go, and who-knows-what unforeseen possible extra treatment needs.**
