Hello and thank you for reading my story,
My name is Lynx, I am a performer here in San Francisco, California. I do everything from magic to traditional sideshow stunts. Such as, sword swallowing, the human block head and swallowing needles. Of all the performances I do, sword swallowing has been my passion for the last several years.
March 12th of 2016, I was practicing a stunt that went horribly wrong and could have died. A hollow neon glass tube broke in my upper Sublingual Gland (voice box) causing lacerations on the upper portions of my vocal cords, glotis and larynx. In other words I came close to just speaking in sign language. As you can imagine I thought I was a goner, leaving my girlfriend and 3 kids along with many loved ones. A proccedure known as an endoscopy was performed to fish out most of the fragments and the doctor said the rest would pass on their own.
The doctor told me that I will have to put my passion on hold for several months to allow the healing proccess to take hold.
If I had a regular 9-5 job, the doctor said I'd be fine to go back to work but since I'm in a line of entertainment that puts my life at risk every time I perform it, she suggested I take it easy.
Here is where you come in. I am mostly a street performer by trade. What that means is that I make my living through donations and the generosity of others. I live my dream day in and day out, trying to bring joy to the world through laughter. People don't have to pay, I just want them to enjoy a smile, be amazed and I do it for free. I make an okay living at it, but it's just enough to pay my essential bills and that's it.
My current medical bill from the hospital is upwards of $120,000.00. The breakdown of this cost is quite long, but I will tell you- it made me cry deep inside.
As a performer we can get regular insurance and performers insurance, but each comes with loop holes and problems. Also the insurance game of finding ones that cover everything is like finding a diamond in the rough.
My performers insurance only covers me during performance and not during practices, so this has been an issue. I finally got regular insurance, but it was after the fact. Needless to say I'm covered on both fronts now, but my bill will remain the same.
This campaign will help me cover the next 2-3 months as I'm on my road to recovery and will also help lower my monthly payments to my medical bill. Everything from rent to basic utilities is where this is going.
The sooner I can recieve these funds the less it reduces my chances for the bill to go to collections thus destroying my credit.
I have been a muse for as long as I can remember and knowing that I do have a loving community that will help me out is what is driving me to keep going with what I'm doing... entertaining the world! I can't explain how important this is to me, but what you do today determines what I'll be doing tomorrow. I was born to perform and I know it with every fiber of my body.
I am so thankful for your kind generosity. I cannot wait to be back on my feet to entertain for you once again. Thank you for always being part of my dream and hopefully I can bring laughter and joy to you real soon!
