Hello friends, family and compassionate souls. My name is Jessi and I started this GoFundMe to share about my friend Amy's story.

Amy is 29-years-old and lives in Canada. She has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder that affects every bodily system. There is no cure for EDS and treatments consist of symptom management. She is both feeding tube and IV fluid dependant.

Ehlers Danlos syndrome comes with many complex comorbidities, many of which Amy struggles with. Just to name a few: POTS-Postural orhostatic tachycardia, vasovagal syncope,

Gut dysmotility-nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bladder dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, mast cell activation disorder, dislocations and subluxations, poor wound healing, chronic pain, hypoglycemia.. and more.

Because of the complexity of Amy's disorder she has a multitude of specialists that are very heavily involved in her care, but majority of them she has to pay out of pocket to see- including her treatments. Ontario Medical Supply is also on strike causing an ongoing home-care medical supply shortage. Amy has been greatly affected by this and having to purchase central line/port supplies online or from the USA since they are unable to order and do not have the supplies needed at this time (which are typically covered for). This is HIGHLY critical as she is IV fluid dependant and needs access to very specific dressings, port needles etc.

Amy pays out of pocket to see: A naturopathic doctor for specialized vitamin and mineral IV treatments due to her poor nutritional status, B-12 injections, red light therapy, homeopathy and more. She also sees a dietician who (monitors her weight/nutrition/tube feeds), physiotherapist (working through shoulder surgeries/recovery/strengthening), psychotherapists (that specialize in medical trauma/chronic illness) and more..

Amy has exhausted every option of specialized medical care locally, which has also lead her to find treatment options out of town- with providers knowledgable in EDS management.

All of the money raised here will go towards Amy's outstanding medical bills, ongoing treatments, medical supply expenses and travel expenses. No donation amount is too small, and every little bit is greatly appreciated.
