Hi everyone, this is Thomas B. McMillan (Som of Kimberly Ann McMillan. Unfortunately on February 8th, 2019 my mother has lost her battle with what see was dealing with, and is now resting easy with PaPa, Max, Willy, Aunt Barb, and Benny! So here is a little something I felt necessary to write:
To My Mother,
What does it take to be a man:
Do you have to be hide your emotion?
Do you have to pass judgement on every thing?
Can you cry?
Can you accept those that are different than yourself?
You have shown me the world. You have done things for me in my life that you needed to do raising me on your own. You fought for what you wanted, and that was a wonderful life. Over my 28 years of existence you have shown me how to be the man I am today.
You had taught me it is ok to show emotion, that is was ok to cry. You raised me to turn the page and see what everyone had to offer, as well as to forgive. You taught me to love everyone single being on this earth. To you I have to say I love you for that and always will!
As Whitney Houston once said:
“I will always love youuuuuuuuuuu!”
The story of the last month:
1. Unfortunately my mom has had multiple illnesses and diseases over the last 6 years, but most importantly the last month! Many ups and downs to come:
Initial information:
Hey everyone this is Tom (Kim’s son) for the those of you wondering!
Back about a week after Christmas we had our family Christmas with my grandparents from Canada! We were all realizing that my mom was having a very hard time breathing. She as well noticed it a day later and went to the hospital.
From there they admitted her into a basic med-surg floor (Beaumont Taylor/Heritage). Unfortunately 2 days later she crashed once which needed a crash team to keep her going, then a couple hours later she needed a second crash team. With that they admitted her to the ICU. With that they needed to put her on a ventilator. Fast forward a week and she was off of it, her ventilations we’re improving and then took a turn for the worse. So an ENT specialist was need and she needed to be transferred to Beaumont Main/Oakwood. When she arrived she needed to be vented.
She was on it for about half a week at Oakwood. When the ENT decided to do a Bronchioscopey to find out what the issue was. Well they were doing the procedure they had seen that there was a mass on the side of her throat which deviated her throat. So they did a biopsy on the mass and found out there was no cancerous or abnormal matter.
To help her get off the ventilator, they decided a couple days later to do a treachotomy to help heal the infection/ and assist her getting off the ventilator.
Which leads to today. She is improving slowly, but we haven’t had any negatives recently. I love all of you and figured some of you would like an update as well! #ONELOVE
UPDATE 1:
Hey everyone it’s Tom (Kim’s son) again!
Things are still looking upwards, as of this morning my mother had a little procedure for a temporary feeding tube to assist her in getting proper nutrition! Once again I love all of you! As well as the overwhelming appreciation I have for all of you! #ONELOVE
UPDATE 2:
Tom (Kim’s son) again:
My mother is still going in a positive direction, just very slowly! I check on her multiple times daily, and make sure every time I see her as well to ask how she is doing mentally and to keep trying tactics to keep her spirit in the fighting mood to beat whatever this is!
The overwhelming support from all of you is a god send!
Today she is still providing a good amount of secretion, which shows the infection is at least coming out! She also had her foley taken out today, as well as another tube being put in to provide skin break down from not happening in a (personal) region!
As always I love you all! We will keep fighting this and praying for her recovery as well. #ONELOVE
UPDATE 3:
Hey everyone, an update from Tom (Kim’s son) again with some not so great news!
I was woken up from a call at 2:30 am this morning stating that my mom had crashed (heart had stopped for about full minutes). They did end up resesatating her and are currently doing testing. she is also stable, lookin better than earlier this morning, and is alert and communicating with hand squeezes and hand signals!
Included is: a full panel of bloodwork, a full body CT Scan, etc. To further look into what is causing these current issues.
I love all of you and so does she! #ONELOVE
UPDATE 4:
Hey everyone Tom (Kim’s son) with a better update:
So today is a better day, Rob was up here with her all day yesterday with all of us and all day today to make sure she knew everyone was here with her and so she didn’t feel alone.
While he was here today he got to see all of the doctors and two different nurses, all of which said she is finally showing bigger improvements slowly but surely.
As of right now she is stable and sedated a little bit more then usual, but it’s all just to keep her calm and give her heart and body time to heal. As well as the ventilator being on a single level feed instead of the more aggressive bi-level feed!
I appreciate/love all of you and so does she! #ONELOVE
UPDATE 5:
Hey everyone Tom (Kim’s son) again:
So as of this morning I got called around 9:30 am stating that my mom had coded/crashed again! They brought her back while I was on the phone and said they will update me every 30 minutes since I was at work. Well about 30 minutes later she coded/crashed again and they brought her back now! So I rushed up there from work! Long story short I was really dirty from work and didn’t feel safe around her so I am at home right now getting ready to clean up and get back up there.
She is in semi-unstable condition but improving. As of right now they think it is due to a leak of air in her trachea tube. I will keep you all updated as best as I can.
I love you all! #ONELOVE
UPDATE 6:
Hey everyone Tom again (Kim’s son):
So today is a brighter day! We all sure had another shake up yesterday, but we are all staying strong including my mother!
She is still improving slowly, but surely. Yesterday, after my update my mother did have to procedures.
1. To put a tube in for temporary dialysis to get kidneys functioning better. Which they got started.
2. A tube for a more accurate Blood pressure reading. Which they are still working in finding a good spot.
Today she is more alert, joking and giving me looks. I am coloring her pictures to brighten up her room too! Everyone here is staying positive so I ask of all of you to do the same.
I love you all! #ONELOVE
To say the least she was absolutely the world to me, but unfortunately sometimes you need to ask for help.
Anything raised in her name will be put towards her funeral proceedings, a hall for a memorial dinner with friends, family, and other loved ones. As well as being used to close up any loose ends my mother and Rob (Stepdad) had! I LOVE ANYONE THAT TAKES THE TIME TO READ THIS! I LOVE YOU ALL! #ONELOVE
