Gregg Gibbons Stroke Rehab Fund
Donation protected
Because Gregg is in the ministry with Journey In Christ as a discipling counselor, insurance options are limited. Unfortunately the plan available to Gregg and Joy covers no rehabilitation services. The money you give will help cover the enormous cost of rehabilitation, without which Gregg will have little or no further recovery.
This fund will help pay for rehabilitation services aimed at helping Gregg regain use of the left side of his body.
Joy and Gregg need this assistance as soon as possible as they will, as self-pay patients, be required to pay up front for Gregg's rehab. Their goal is to take Gregg to The Shepherds Center in Atlanta Georgia, where he will recieve care that far exceeds what is available in Greenville, SC where they live.
No one can better explain this situation better than Gregg's wife Joy. Here are her own words, excerps from a letter she prepared for The Shepherd Center, regarding the necessity of rehabilitation for Gregg:
"Gregg is 60 years old and has never been sick. He has gone to the doctor every year for a physical. He enjoys running. As a matter of fact he ran two and a half miles the day of his stroke. "
"I've had many surgeries and been sick most of our married life and Gregg has taken care of me every time. This is my first time taking care of Gregg because it's the first time he's ever had any type of medical issue. This is exceedingly overwhelming to me. I don't have a lot of stamina and I don't have a lot of strength. Gregg is the healthy one in our family."
"Gregg cannot come home the way he is today. Some of the things Gregg would need help with are: bathing, dressing, eating, personal hygiene, transfers and mobility. "
"I can't take care of him in this situation at this stage of his recovery. "He can't lift himself. I couldn't turn him from side to side as he needs to prevent bed sores. I could just be with him and feed him. That's all I'm physically capable of. "
"I know that the rehab facilities in Greenville won’t take him because we don’t have insurance (that covers rehab). Also, I have learned the rehab options in Greenville are not geared to overcoming what has happened to you but only in learning the coping skills to help you in your current state."
"I want him to have every possible chance to return to as much of normal as he can. He has taking care of me and I want to do right by him. When I heard of Shepherd Center a spark of hope blossomed in my spirit. The thought that I might be able to get Gregg in Shepherd has made such a difference. I don't want him to be taught how to cope with this situation, I want him to fight back from this situation."
"If we were given the opportunity to come to Shepherd I know he would work really hard as hard as anybody ever has to get back to where he was or at least mostly back."
"I can’t let Gregg down. I also can’t give up on getting Gregg the best that's available when I can work out a way to pay for it and I will pay for it in advance."
When you give to this fund for Gregg, you will be not only helping him be able to return to his home with his wife Joy. You will be participating in the impact Christ makes through Gregg, his relationships, and his ministry with Journey In Christ.
