A lot can be said about Tonii Mattocks, born and raised a Marquette native she is loving, caring, patient, giving and always there when you need her, no questions asked. As a young mother (24) Tonii had to put her school to the side while she raised her first son Jace (now 3). Her love to help people and make them feel and look beautiful was always so strong. She then attended NMU for her Esthetician’s certification, which she achieved. After months of feeling fatigued and an unexplained amount of weight loss she decided to go into the doctors to see what was going on. Two days after Christmas 2018 Tonii was diagnosed with stage 3b Classical Hodgkins lymphoma. A few weeks before this she went in for the initial biopsy to find out what was going on, that’s when she found out she was pregnant. This was something that she and her partner had been trying to do for months, but now it comes with complications. With this new diagnosis the team of doctors up in Marquette didn’t know what to do so they sent her downstate to U of M Ann Arbor to setup her initial treatment. This comes with a lot of travel as she is scheduled to travel 7-8 hrs every month. Coming with this diagnoses is extreme weakness, tiredness, and pain which has made it impossible for Tonii to work anymore, it has made it a struggle to take care of her 3 year old son let alone herself. The next steps for her are chemo therapy, rest, and growing her blessing of a baby.
