Dear community,
My name is Rosa Noriega-Rocha and I am a first generation low income PhD student in the sociology department at the University of Michigan. As a self proclaimed public scholar, who grew up among the strawberry fields of agricultural Watsonville, California, to a family of farmworkers, I have devoted my research agenda to documenting the issues that are prevalent in my community. Especially the issues that pertain to Farmworking women and their children.
Recently I was in a car accident which left me and my family at loss. I fractured my back and totaled our family car which was my only mode of transportation here in Ann Arbor and was bought by my farmworking mother.
Given my situation, having had fractured my back and being unable to transport myself I am requesting funds to be able to properly compensate my friend whom I met during my stay in Ann Arbor to be able to help me with my in home care as well as with any transportation needs that I may have. Any remaining funds will be used to further help my friend as she is a low income woman of color trying to survive and unable to receive public assistance.
Thank you all for your help amidst these times.
Warmly,
Rosa
