Help Sarah rebuild her home
Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm trying to raise financial support for my friend, Sarah, (picture above) so that she can have funds to hire movers and find a disability-accessible home to rent in NOLA as she has recently been displaced from her apartment due to the flooding from Hurricane Ida. She did not ask me to do this, but she has agreed with me that it is important to try to do this based off of her circumstance. I feel it is very important that we show up to help her out during this time. This is a practical way we can help someone who has been negatively affected from these storms in a huge way.
Sarah Sternlieb is an M.D. who is currently completing a residency for internal medicine in NOLA at Ochsner Health. I personally met her when she was doing a residency in Nashville, TN, at the same hospital where I attend births. For those who may not know, residents make barely enough money for living expenses - they aren't living the 6-figure dream yet. Sarah has been an overcomer of some great obstacles in her life, but has not allowed anyone or anything sway her from her dream of practicing as a physician.
During Hurricane Ida, her apartment had flooding and the majority of her things were ruined. Her rental insurance will not pay for complete replacement. She had to flee from her apartment and go to Colorado to stay with some relatives until she can find accessible housing for her and her dog to stay because of her disability. She is still trying to figure out how to get back to NOLA with her dog at this time. Finding a place to stay (even temporarily) in NOLA that is disability accessible and allows dogs is extremely challenging; even if it is temporary, an AirBnB is extremely expensive to find that meets those qualifications.
To make matters worse, Sarah lost one of her best friends - her Yorkie fur baby, Mia - the week before the flood. She also just found out that her remaining Yorkie, Cooper, has an eye ulcer and will possibly need surgery soon. She will be taking him to an eye specialist in Colorado this week for further evaluation.
The needs for practical and financial help are overwhelming. Average AirBnB places (not disability-accessible) for her to stay in while she looks for a new apartment are approx $150-$300 per night. She then will have to pay a moving company to move into an AirBnB and then move into a new apartment when she is able to find one. She also will need to replace some of her items that got damaged in the flood. Any extra financial donations would be so appreciated for her move so she can finish her residency in a safe, accessible new home. Please help me contribute to the moving fund (remember you don't have add extra to the GoFundMe tipping option). All funds go directly from here to her bank account. ALTERNATE OPTION: You can contribute to her moving expenses by donating to her on Venmo (@Sarah-Sternlieb-1).
