Hurricane Sally Damages
Donation protected
Wow, what a humbling experience to be on GoFundMe, but welcome to Apocalypse 2020. My boyfriend Nate and I are fresh homeowners (yay!) but we got smacked up by Hurricane Sally (booo!). We weathered record breaking rain which totaled upwards of 30 inches of water, or about 4 months or rain in 4 hours.
Our home took in some water under the floorboards and unfortunately the laminate got wet, meaning we have to replace all our floorboards before it molds. Home insurance does not cover water in the home in this instanceso we will be paying for repairs out of pocket. We are taking all steps possible to prevent this from happening again, including purchasing flood insurance so we may be fully protected in the future. But in the here and now, Nate is building a french drainage system in our backyard - by himself - to improve water dispersion and we are looking into tree removal. There is a beautiful Oak tree in our yard but it extends over our house and if it wanted to see the inside of our bedroom, it wouldn't take much wind.
We are hoping to crowd source some money for repairs and prevention, but we also understand that this is a difficult time for everyone and in no way want our friends and family to overextend themselves. We are actively searching for other means of assistance, however tr*mp has not issued a state of emergency for Pensacola and therefore we cannot apply for FEMA assistance. We will be putting all raised money toward new flooring, the french drainage system, and tree removal. But again, we understand these are strange and harrowing times for everyone and we do not wish to put our temporary need for assistance above those fighting more chronic and systematic struggles.
