Please help Sparrow
Sparrow was starving and anemic, and his wounds (which were about a week old!) were severely infected. He was given antibiotics and a pain killer, and the next day a decision was made to sedate and start cleaning the wounds. Due to the amount of dirt encased in his wounds, we thought he had lost his eye, but, miraculously, the eye was intact.
However, nothing prepared us for the sight we saw the next day as the cleaning began and the extent of his injuries were revealed. There are no words. Removing maggots, the vet stitched where she could, but most of his wounds were gaping holes all over his body that would need time to heal. And his face… his mauled face with those gentle, tired eyes… this was the face of abuse.
It’s been four weeks since Sparrow was rescued. Four weeks where he has shown unwavering resilience, courage and patience as his wounds get treated. This is a dog that has fought his way from the brink of death, against all odds, and is on his way to recovery. This dog, who was repeatedly abused against his will, as a bait dog, tortured most viciously and almost succumbing to his injuries, has not only survived but has shown us something that we have yet to see in a human… forgiveness in its purest form.
To see him wagging his tail at every hello. To have him cuddle up to us and thrive on the kindness and love he is now being showered with. Sparrow is our hero. For he has taught us that even when we are dealt with a cruel hand, there is a place in our hearts capable of loving and trusting once again. His body may have been broken, but his spirit and will to live are unconquerable.
Please donate to help cover some of Sparrows medical costs and the costs associated with finding him a home that will treat him the way he deserves to be treated.
