sup Holmes?
Sup Holmes? is a fundraising initiative to gather community investment into setting up a local Hilltops non-profit organisation to support men's wellbeing. This fundraiser has been started in honour of beloved local Brendon Holmes who was active in the community and had the idea of setting up a men's group himself. He could empathise and acknowledge that there was a need for men to connect regularly, but sadly found it difficult to open up and reach support himself.
We are developing a network of men's groups for men, run by men. All funds will be kept local to the Hilltops region to develop on the ground support networks for our rural men. This initiative intends to bridge the gap between men's everyday lives and the professional services available to treat mental health conditions.
To do this, the first stage of funds will go toward Standard Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training of 22 Hilltops MENtors, who will meet regularly with peers. https://mhfa.com.au/courses/public/types/standardedition4
Getting this project off the ground is just the beginning to changing the culture around men opening up #itaintweaktospeak
