Hi everyone,
I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister, Brittany, a 37-year-old single mother of three children (18, 14 & 8 years old). Brittany is the kind of person who shows up no matter how hard things get, and the past several months have tested her in ways no one should have to face alone.
After being sick for more than six months, Brittany was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. Throughout her illness, she continued working two jobs to support her family, pushing through constant exhaustion, fear, and pain. In addition to cancer, she has been battling persistent infections, including a bilateral ear infection, sinus infection, and upper respiratory infection. After her fifth round of antibiotics failed to help, doctors were forced to reduce her work hours to just 20 hours per week—a devastating financial hit for a single mom already stretched thin.
Most days, Brittany wakes up with barely enough energy to get her kids ready for school, goes to work, and comes home to rest whenever she can. Behind the scenes, she is also facing panic attacks and the constant fear of the unknown, all while doing her best to stay strong for her children.
On February 11, Brittany is scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy with reconstruction, along with sentinel lymph node biopsies, and will spend at least two nights in the hospital. Oncotype testing will be performed to determine how much chemotherapy will be required. Even without chemotherapy, her recovery is expected to take a minimum of 10–15 weeks, during which time she will be unable to work and will continue to face medical bills and everyday household expenses.
Brittany will not be going through this alone. She will have the daily support of her kids and her parents Jane and Kevin Gaffney, who will be helping with day-to-day needs and care. Her siblings will also be traveling to Nebraska as often as possible to assist with anything they can. While this support is invaluable, the financial strain during treatment and recovery remains significant.
Our hope is to help relieve that burden so Brittany can focus fully on healing and being there for her children. Donations will go toward lost income, medical expenses, childcare, and basic living costs during this incredibly difficult time.
Any amount helps, and if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means just as much. Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support for Brittany and her family, it truly means more than words can express.
