Help with Jake's vet bills
Donation protected
Hi! This is Jake - a 6 year old Maltese mix, and my personal anti-depression & anxiety ward.
Around November last year I noticed that he'd started holding himself oddly and was wobbly on his hind legs. He couldn't hold himself up while doing his business, couldn’t walk up the stairs etc. As it got worse throughout that week I eventually took him to a nearby vet.
This is where the problem starts. Since I myself cannot work due to medical issues and am basically living off of what the state and health insurance are giving me (hint: it isn't much), I couldn't do much more than keeping him on painkillers for a while, and even that has taken a toll on my meager funds.
The wobbly legs situation has resolved itself over the past few months, but the main problem remains - I'm still keeping him on painkillers for... "bad knees", essentially. His right hind leg is completely numb from the knee down and the rest of it is painful for him.
He has been running around with this issue for more than half a year now, and my vet assumes it's only going to get worse over time. So she recommended amputating the leg. I have no doubt that Jake would adjust well to 3-legged life, but this surgery & everything that comes after is simply something I cannot afford on my own.
This little guy means the world to me. More than that, really. He's basically the only thing keeping me alive at this point, and so I'd like to return the favor by letting him live his own life pain-free.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

That said, any money beyond Jake's medical bills will be donated to the local shelter :)
