After five long years of fighting breast cancer, I’ve learned that it has now spread to my bones. This news has changed my life in ways I never imagined. Because of the physical, emotional, and spiritual toll this journey has taken, I’ve had to step away from the career I loved so deeply. Letting go of my work as a realtor has broken my heart more than I can put into words.

When I began my real estate career nearly 20 years ago, I set one clear goal for myself: to someday be able to retire my husband from a lifetime of laying brick and block—work that demanded everything from his body in extreme heat and bitter cold. About ten years ago, he faced a serious health issue that nearly took his life, and from that moment on, I became determined to build a stable future where I could support us both.

Two years ago, I finally reached that goal. I was proud, grateful, and relieved to know that he no longer had to endure that backbreaking work. But cancer blindsided us once again. As my health declined and I was forced to step away from my career, my husband recently had to return to the very job I promised I would get him out of. Watching this happen has broken my heart all over again.

Through every brutal step of this journey, my husband has never left my side. He stood with me through a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation—not once, but twice. He was there through a life-saving spine surgery that replaced nearly 80% of my spine with a metal rod to keep me from becoming paralyzed. Physically, this road has been unbearable at times. Mentally, it is a crushing weight I carry every single day.

This illness has taken so much from us—our sense of security, our peace, and the future we worked so hard to build. The emotional, financial, and spiritual toll has been overwhelming.

I want to thank every person who has supported me throughout my life and career. Your prayers, kindness, encouragement, and love have carried me through moments when I didn’t think I could keep going. I truly would not be here without you.
