Anybody who knows Tony, knows he has a
love for hiking. He’s a 2 time ADK 46er! This
past weekend while hiking down MT MARCY, going toward HAYSTACK mountain he
stepped on a rock just right, or wrong? Tony
scooted along about 2 miles on his butt while his nephew ran about 5 miles to the ranger station, explained the situation and they sent a search and rescue. He was extracted off the mountain by the NYS Rangers.
Xrays this morning at urgent care showed at least 3 breaks and a shift in the tibia which got set back in place in the ER this afternoon. The ER also found break #4.
Tony will need to under go surgery in about 2 weeks to repair the breaks to the right foot/leg. He’ll likely end up with 2 plates and 5 screws. He’ll also be off the mountains for the remainder of this year.
Unfortunately for him, he has no health
insurance to help with the cost.
