Family in Need After Emergency Surgery
Doação protegida
Hello everybody! (In my best Dr. Nick from the Simpsons voice)
I really don’t like having to ask for things. I would rather be the person fixing problems, but the last few weeks have been a little outside of my control.
On December 26th 2024 I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency surgery. I had somehow contracted Fournier’s Gangrene and that had led into sepsis (the doctors think that it’s from scar tissue buildup from a surgery I had when I was very young). If I would’ve waited another 24 hours to go in I most likely would’ve died, according to my doctors. Thankfully my wife was more stubborn than I was at the time.
That first surgery turned into another surgery a few days later where a testicle needed to be removed, and that turned into another follow up procedure a few more days after that. So far I haven’t been able to work in almost a month, and my wife has had to make as many adjustments with her work schedule as possible to get me to appointments and do most of my nursing care at home because insurance will only cover so much.
Typically we would have enough in savings to cover us for awhile, but we were cleaned out over the summer of 2024 when my wife’s previous employer decided to dissolve her position, and in turn, we lost our place to live (the apartment and job were linked). All of our savings went into looking for and getting a new place to live on short term notice which is difficult when you have one income and most rentals want at least a few months of pay stubs for verification.
We’ve been very thankful and appreciative of all of the food and help that people have been able to give in this short time, but the reality is that bills still keep coming, and I have no definitive time that I’ll be able to get back to work. We have to figure out medical bills, two car payments, insurance, utilities, rent, gas, food, and all of that other super fun stuff that you get to deal with as an adult with a kid and a couple old cats.
Our family would appreciate any help that you may be able to give. We have no idea how things will chance with health insurers having to change their policies. We would like to thank anyone in advance for whatever help you are able to give. I just want to be able to feed my kid and my cats. My wife too. I like her too. I like her a lot and I’d like to keep seeing her and my kid and my cats.
