I am generally terrible at asking for help. But in this circumstance it is necessary. I found out this fall I have a genetic mutation that puts me at risk for ovarian and breast cancer. Unfortunately there isn’t a reliable way to monitor for ovarian cancer so I am having preventative surgery on 2/7. Short term disability covers 60% of my salary for the time I am out. I am currently planning to go back on 2/26 as long as I feel up to it. My doctor said recovery can take up to 6 weeks. The amount I am paying for the surgery after insurance is a significant amount. I can do a payment plan but it is just an expense I wasn’t anticipating.
