Hi, my name is Kevin. My puppy Shaggy and I often go to the park in the Dean Home Community Marguerite M. O'Neill Park to play and socialize with his dog friends in the neighborhood. He is a white Maltipoo about 15 pounds in weight. Most of the dog owners in the Dean Homes Community know Shaggy for his good personality and playfulness with their dogs. On Friday, April 21 at about 5:30 in the afternoon, we were in the park as usual with a few of Shaggy's friends Eddie and Ottis hanging out. It was such a nice day out, the sun was finely shining and it seemed like a great day to enjoy the rest of the afternoon with my Shaggy playing ball and talking with the neighbors. Shortly after we arrived two large Golden Retrievers and their owner walked into the park and up to the group of us and started talking. The dogs were all in a group sniffing the grass when one the of Golden Retrievers snapped and attacked Shaggy biting him on his right hind leg and snaping in half his left front leg at the elbow. I was unable to get the name or contact information of the Owner of the Retrievers and have asked around and no one seems to know who he is or where exactly he lives in the Dean Home Track. If you know or live near a person with two Red Golden Retrievers please contact me.
Shaggy had Emergency Orthopedic Surgery the next day. The surgery lasted 4 hours as the Surgeon placed two pins Chris-cross-like and 'X' inserted inside the two halves of bones to hold them together. Dr Keeshan didn't feel comfortable with the pins alone because the place of the break is at the elbow and not enough bone to safely secure his leg together. Dr Keeshan had to attach an External Skeletal Fixator with four additional pins drilled through Shaggy's bone exiting the skin on both sides and attaching to a external clamp to hold the two halves of his leg in place.
This is now week two since his surgery and he is in good spirits but can't walk or put any pressure on his leg, I carry him everywhere we go. Shaggy has a long way to go before he will be able to be chased and wrestled with by his dog friends again. We all are praying for Shaggy that he will have a speedy recovery and someday be able to run through the park as before.
The medical bills for Shaggy have compounded to over seven thousand dollars for the Orthopedic Surgery and everything else involved so far.
I have never done this before, reaching out like this asking for help but a friend suggested I post this since we have been unable to find the owner of the two dogs.
Shaggy
