Bailey’s Back Surgery
In December 2018, our sweet Bailey went from an energetic 2 year old pup to paralyzed with no warning signs. Within 24 hours of being paralyzed, Bailey underwent emergency back surgery with hopes that the surgery could reverse her paralysis. During surgery, her neurologist said that Bailey had extensive damage, tearing and bleeding in her back. Her paralysis was caused from a ruptured disc, which essentially exploded and caused severe hemorrhages, bleeding, and damage throughout her entire spine.
During her week in the intensive care unit at PVSEC, it was also detected that she had heart issues (cardiac arrhythmias), which made her have a tougher time recovering from surgery.
Unfortunately her surgery and care was not cheap and cost $12,000. After several months of intensive home care and therapy, Bailey regained the ability to walk and was back to her happy and loving self.
A few days ago (April 2020) Bailey started showing signs of severe pain in her back. Unfortunately, Bailey has not responded to intensive pain medications at home and has been in severe pain for several days.
Bailey has been admitted back to PVSEC, where they discovered that she has another calcified disc in a different area of her back (L6-L7), which they believe is causing the pain. Bailey's MRI results showed a massive herniation in the lower part of her spine with 80-90% compression. Due to this prognosis, the only option at this time is surgery, which is scheduled for tomorrow morning (May 1). Like us, Bailey’s sister, Turbo, is missing her very much right now.
If you know Bailey, you know she is one of the most loving, gentle, and affectionate dogs you’ve ever met. She always puts a smile on everyone’s faces and absolutely loves snuggling under the blankets with anyone that’s willing to share.
Normally I would not ask for others to help cover the expensive for my own pet, however, we are looking at another $10,000+ for her diagnostics, intensive care in the emergency room, and surgery. Therefore, I must ask for help. Please, if you can spare as little as $1 towards Bailey’s care, I will be eternally grateful. Thank you so much for your consideration. We hope we can get Bailey feeling better soon.
