This is Joylene Sawyer, Donny‘s wife. Donny found out on November 18 that he has stage two pancreatic cancer. He was in the hospital for a week and a half because he had a blocked bile duct caused by the tumor so they had to get that all under control. We didn’t have health insurance when he was in the hospital but we have since signed up for it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take affect until January 1, so that hospital stay cost us $87,000. Plus the health insurance that is kicking in on January 1 is gonna cost $3800 for out-of-pocket expense. Unfortunately, he’s not able to work because he has an internal/external drain for his bile duct, with a tube coming out of his side! Also he has to have major surgery and chemotherapy so we’re trying to figure out how to pay all our monthly bills plus any medical bills. We did end up getting a second opinion at Moffett Cancer Center in Tampa and they had a bit of a hard time looking at the imaging that was taken at UF health/Shand’s in Gainesville, so they want to get better imaging which is going to be on January 10, but the Dr said that it will be one of two scenarios! If the tumor which is on the head of the pancreas is pressing against or attached to the vein that is nearby, then they would have to do chemo first to shrink it, but if it is not attached to anything like the vein, then they can just go right in and operate and do the Whipple procedure which is an 8-12 hour operation. Either way it’s going to be a long journey ahead and it will be hard with just one income coming in to pay all the bills and everything. We appreciate any support that is given and we thank you so much to those who have already donated. You don’t know how much it means to us and how much it helps us during these very difficult times.
