The Town of Wallkill Police Department PBA is seeking the support of our community members in our efforts to raise the funds associated with adding a second K9 unit to our team. TWPD strives to serve and protect our community and a police K9 is a great tool to aide our officers in that goal. The cost associated with the start up of a K9 unit is rather large so we are seeking help from the many businesses and residents in which we serve here in the Middletown NY area. The K9 will be a narcotics and patrol certified dog. This means that the dog will be used for illegal narcotics detection, to help stop drug traffickers bringing illegal drugs into our town, as well as patrol functions such as tracking of missing adults, children, or suspects, building searches, residential property searches and handler protection. In additional to criminal apprehension, a K9 is a great resource to better our community relations through demonstrations, meet and greets and business walk throughs such as the Galleria mall/hospital etc. These amazing dogs put their lives on the line for our officers and are an amazing tool to help keep our officers and community members as safe as possible. Our goal is to raise the funds by October 1st so the dog may be purchased and ready to attend training this fall.
